So this is the Gingerbread House I was gushing over in my last post, totally ace! I went along to see how they were using the giant journal we made at my internship at StudioXAG, and of course I filled my handbag with gingerbread tiles from the house! So tasty!

Just to explain how brilliant this was: there was a cupcake lawn, jelly-sweet lights, and a popping popcorn chimney! The kids loved it. I loved it.

Apologies for the picture quality, i'm still relying on my disposable camera around London...sometimes it's gorgeous, but as with the first photo it's not so cool! But yeah still biggin' up film.

My lovely housemate Milly Freeman has some illustration work in The W Project exhibition in Dalston, we attended the private view on Tuesday and it's showing 'til tomorrow. GET YOURSELF THERE if you're about in London! It's a well good show with a massive range of work by female artists.

They also had this megacool photobooth on hire from Say Fromage so of course Milly and I got in on that...excellent idea for a private view!

Also, not connected, but last night I finally went and saw TRON: Legacy at the cinema. SO worth it! Really visually stunning, and as someone who doesn't normally like this whole 3-D farce, I was genuinely impressed that they actually used the 3-D technology to enhance the visuals, rather than just shoving things in your face. So beautiful. Watch it. Now. In 3-D.

My 'Collection of Happy Accidents' is being exhibited in Cardiff this month at Milkwood Gallery as part of a 'Peculiar Pleasures' exhibition. So if you're about in Cardiff in November then pop along! It's a great show. I went down for the opening night and everyone's work is fab. There was a performance from Parisian artist Arianne Foks which was bizarre but very entertaining!

I haven't blogged in quite some time now, sorry! I've been very busy since finishing uni...I had my degree show, went to Glastonbury Festival, went to India for 2 weeks, had my graduation, discovered I had picked up a parasite from my indian travels, and been ill for about 4 weeks!

Anyway, I'm finally better, and things are starting to get a bit real now since i'm applying for jobs, and thinking about moving to London, and pimping out my illustration skills to see if anyone will have me!

Added some type, and got rid of the previous textures, which I'm sad about, but I need to screen print these, and I didn't think the textures would come out very well so solid colours it is!

Yeah so I eventually got ONE of my projects totally finished for this year. It feels ACE! This is my poster design for 'Inspire Me', which I was having massive issues with until very recently. It's all about these creatures "Happy Accidents" who will come along and ruin your artwork in a bid to try and change the direction of your idea for the better. It's all a bit silly, but that's what I do, innit. I feel pretty proud of it to be honest...just happy it's all done and dusted!

My submission for REISS's 1971 t-shirt competition. 'Edie Sedgwick':

So basically, I discovered a t-shirt design competition through Dazed & Confused for REISS. The brief was all about when the brand began: 1971, and illustrating this date in an original way. I naturally began researching significant events in this year, and narrowed my ideas down to 4 starting points: The moon, Evel Knievel, Jim Morrison and Edie Sedgwick. I decided that Edie Sedgwick would look the most dramatic and stylish on a t-shirt, and basically just drew her face until i came out with this image! I based the layout on her last film 'Ciao! Manhattan'. I feel pretty proud of myself to be honest, since it's been a while since i motivated myself to do something for a deadline and i managed to come out pleased with it!

"Tender"

I changed my festival routine this year and upgraded from Leeds to Glasto. Boy, was it worth it! I had such an awesome time and there was no burning of tents on the last night and just generally millions of more things to do after dark! MJ sadly died this weekend so it was all a bit surreal when people started doing tributes and dedications too. This is who i saw:

EBONY BONES...(didn't know any of her stuff, apart from Katie singing it to me, but i got a pleasant surprise cos she's pretty cool!)

METRONOMY...("well that goes, heartbreaker")

THE WHIP...(unexpectedly good live)

REGINA SPEKTOR...(she was so smiley and played the piano while singing and drumming on a wooden chair)

N.E.R.D....(special guests that me and Katie were obviously the last to know about, but they were bloody brilliant despite coming on half an hour late due to technical problems. Pharrell didn't want to leave and just kept going over their time slot until they got cut off mid song! *sob* Oh, and they got a load of boys up out the crowd to dance with them on stage! Awesome.)

LILY ALLEN...(she wore a beautiful jumpsuit with a pink wig and a white MJ glove and looked gorgeous. She also covered Britney's 'Womanizer' which was pretty cool)

LADY GAGA...(4 costume changes getting more and more naked until she ended up with fire coming out of her boobs! She's amazing. And she wore her bubble outfit and did an acoustic 'Pokerface' on her bubble piano!)

BLOC PARTY...(Me and Lowri met a geordie vulcan and danced our hearts out to 'Flux')

ROLF HARRIS...(The busiest crowd yet. Oh, and he rapped.)

MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS...(she did a cover of Gwen Stefani's 'What you waiting for' and it was awesome! and then me and Katie saw her walking through the crowd afterwards. This counts as star spotting fo' sho')

PEGGY SUE...(i didn't know any of their stuff, but me and Katie stayed in the Queen's Head tent after Marina and they were really lovely.)

DIZZEE RASCAL...(my 5th time seeing him. Properly mint. He came on in a suit to 'that's not my name' and then ripped it off to reveal typical Dizzee style. And he also did a 5 min intros dedication to Michael Jackson which was pretty special)

PASSION PIT...(really really dancy and F.U.N.)

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN...(I didn't know if i'd love this cos i don't know loads of his stuff, but he totally blew me away. Absolute Legend. And he was literally smoking hot at one point.)

BRAND NEW...(I'm glad i got to see these guys properly cos i saw them at leeds one year and missed most of it, but they were brilliant. Jesse Lacey did a cover of Neutral Milk Hotel's 'Oh Comely' at the end too which was beautiful.)

YEAH YEAH YEAHS...(Karen O looked amazing. She came on in a multicoloured headress and cape! They started with 'Runaway' which i didn't really want them to play cos i think it's a bit boring, but they did it to prove me wrong cos it was beautiful live. Everything else was aweseome apart from them missing out 'Rich'.)

BAT FOR LASHES...(I love Natasha so much. And she played 'Priscilla' which she missed out when i saw them at Leeds so that was gooood. Also she looked beautiful in a lovely sparkly outfit as always.)

ROOTS MANUVA...(I'm too cold too cold too cold too cold. Brill.)

BLUR...(Oh. My. God. BRILLIANT. Seriously didn't know what to expect cos i was so mentally unprepared for seeing them but Damon Albarn was on top form and it was so amazingly atmospheric. Loved it.)

Fave performances = BLUR, BAT FOR LASHES, YEAH YEAH YEAHS, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, LADY GAGA, BLOC PARTY, N.E.R.D.

Totally can't choose one favourite! Haha everything was just so good.

I had a lot of work to do on improving my outcome for 'The Feelgood Drinks Co.' YCN brief that i did last term, in time for summative assessments, and i'm well happy with it now! I had these 8 bottle characters who spell out the word FEELGOOD with their names. Anyway, they all have different personalities and i photographed my card cut-outs on location doing what they love as individual adverts for 'Feelgood'.

'CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY'

This is my FINAL final piece for my Publishing module. I handed it in this morning, but won't find out what i got for a couple of weeks EEEK! I feel really proud of what I've done, and I love the way it looks, purely because it took me so flipping long to do!

The aim of this theatre piece is for parents to buy it for their children to accompany story telling, but also something that can be kept on display in the family home, rather than in a box.

The frames inside the concertina are all removable, and additional story packs would be available to buy to fit in the same theatre (hence the labeling and packaging of the packs of frames above).

CUT IT OUT & GET CLOSURE

This is my second outcome for my Publishing Studies module, which is based around the theme of 'Closure' and my sub-theme of 'Cut It Out'. I chose to use the last scene of classic books and freeze it in time in a theatre. The theatre will be able to hold many different stories, and the 4 slides can be interchangeable to mix up the stories.

The story shown in the theatre above is the last scene from Alice in Wonderland. At the moment I am working on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as an alternate pack of slides.

My final piece will be the theatre frame (hopefully with somekind of title or decoration on), 2 sets of 4 slides, and labels with summaries of the stories on.

I feel ok about the time I have left before final assessments, even though it's only 5 days! Wish me luck.

LITTLE THEATRE ON THE PRAIRIE

This is my final piece for the first part of my Publishing Studies brief: CLOSURE. We had to choose a sub-word from the theme Closure, and i chose CUT OUT. I based my idea on a Victorian Toy Theatre, and used an old children's book "Little House On The Prairie" to cut up and make a 3D theatre from the last scene of the book, to link in with Closure, and also Cutting it out. I'm really pleased with what i've done, even though i did stay up ALL night doing it cos i'm such a perfectionist! The day i handed it in was INSANE. Hardly anyone had had any sleep so we were all laughing at nothing and seeing things in complete dazes!

Anyway, i get to develop this piece for the second part of the CLOSURE brief, which needs to be made into something that has a purpose in the Graphic Design world. I have NO idea what i'm going to do here, cos i don't want it to be predictable...

I finally got my tiger animation uploaded! Yay! I did it last term, and I'm very jealous that the other half of my class are doing it this term and I have to do silly CAD. Oh well, turns out I'm actually liking my photoshop shizzle so it's not all bad.

I soundtracked my animation to Patrick Wolf's 'Tristan', and made the tiger puppet and set from scratch. I LOVED IT.

Yes, i'm posting yet MORE animations. Bare with me though, because these are truly awesome...i promise! The first is a music video for the song 'Clementine' by Washington which has some really lovely print work combined with a cat chasing a severed limb. What more do you want!?

The one below was discovered via Aneek, and i loved it so much i had to share it too! My favourite bit is after 3 minutes. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

I haven't blogged for a while now since I've been busy getting back into the uni swing of things, and settling back into Leicester and our new house.

I've just started the animation part of my course, and I'm absolutely LOVING it! These are a few little lovely animations which make me jealous. because they are so beautiful to watch. The first is 'Taller Than Trees' by Joseph Mann, and the second is 'My First Crush' by Julia Pott, the third is the BBC's advert for the 2008 Olympics by Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn. (Hence why the music is so lush!) Finally the last one is 'City Paradise' by Gaelle Denis (featuring Joanna Newsom's 'Peach, Plum, Pear') BEAUtiful.

I saw an advert for Shona Reppe's puppets the other day, and i fell in love with her gorgeous little creations! This one was for Cinderella.

I wanna make puppets now!

Oh, and I'm also moving into my new house on Tuesday which I am so mutha-flippin' excited about! Eeeeek! I can't wait. I've been packing all today and I never realised how much junk I have! Oh dear.

"Do the D.A.N.C.E."

Last weekend was of course my annual trip to Leeds Festival, which was as ever: AWESOME. The ususal crew of us went and we had a supercool time. I also met up with Sally and Avnish and made some new friends who happen to go to uni in Leicester. I saw:

ROBOTS IN DISGUISE...(Noel Fielding came on stage to play bass wearing a robot mask)

LETHAL BIZZLE...(Bizzled my socks off)

PENDULUM...(so jam packed that my face nearly got ripped off when leaving the tent, and i was holding tight to a man's neck vein, thinking it was Grace's finger!)

TENACIOUS D...(i heart jack)

LIGHTSPEED CHAMPION...(who did the Star Wars medley again, making my day)

DIGITALISM...(unexpectedly AMAZING to dance to)

CSS...(i danced like a tool due to the African Vodka pouches Grace brought, we even whipped out the sports dance moves)

DIZZEE RASCAL...(who would've been better in a tent instead of on the main stage, but still i fixed up and looked sharp)

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE...(again, unexpectedly amazing since i don't really know much of their stuff...although the sound was terrible where we were standing at the start)

THE TEENAGERS...(my friend from home Sally got to go up on stage and sing the girls bit in 'The Homecoming' which was supercool)

MGMT...('Electric Feel' went down REALLY well with the crowd)

THE KILLERS...(dropped masses and masses of confetti at the end which looked beautiful, as well as having an amazing stage set)

ALKALINE TRIO...(me and my friends danced like girls and wore jewellery and stuff in amongst a crowd of people in black talking about death, and then showed them all who the true Alkaline fans were by knowing all the words)

JUSTICE...(Truly awesome. I think they were probably my highlight because i danced so much, and they played 'D.A.N.C.E.' AND 'We Are Your Friends'. I was so happy and sweaty)

FOALS...(not great live, i think his vocals needed turning up)

LOUIS XIV...(I used to love their album so it was a happy surprise to see them live)

LOS CAMPESINOS!...(just nice and lovely and fun)

EDITORS...(i didn't realise how many of their songs i love)

SANTOGOLD...(COOL AS ICE. I caught up with Avnish and Deborah for this awesome event. Her dancers made me feel inadequate on the dancefloor though)

My highlights were Justice, Digitalism, Dizzee, Santogold, Pendulum...it was all TOO GOOD! I had a fabulosa time, even though it was muddy as hell and I fell flat on my face several times! I sported some high risk dance moves at the rave tents, and stole a girls sunglasses only to loose them in the mud. All in all, AN ACE WEEKEND.

I went to see this awesome animated film the other day at the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle. It's directed by Marjane Satrapi and is the story of a girl growing up in the Islamic revolution in Iran. It is visually beautiful and I really really recommend everyone goes to see it! Truly stunning.

THERE'S A WHOLE WORLD IN THERE

I've been listening to Hot Chip quite a bit these past few days, since i absolutely love them, and felt inspired to do an illustration for their song "Out At The Pictures". I really like old style traditional theatres and the atmosphere they create, and also wanted to incorporate Hot Chip's electronic sound by using robots as characters in the image. It turned out quite cute! For once I produced something worthwhile on my day off work!

My new obsession is tigers. They are beautiful. I saw one in a museum which i thought was fake because it was so big, but it actually died of liver failure in a zoo so it really was that big!

BLACKPOOL

I went to Backpool at the weekend to see Mark, with Leo, Emily and Avnish and it was AWESOME. We went to the waterpark which has the world's largest indoor water-rollercoaster! Cool man.

Blackpool also boasts the world's largest disco ball. Needless to say I was properly amazed!

I also ate 3 ice creams within the same afternoon...which is fine, cos I was at the seaside so it doesn't matter!

I can't remember how i first discovered Sarah Beetson, but it probably has nothing to do with our names both being Sarah. Anyway, I recently found some of her work hidden on my laptop in a folder cleverly titled "Arty things i Love". I love her bright colours, her textures, her shoes, and her boldness.
